Sokcho was a place where time seemed to stand still, where the old met the new in a harmonious blend. Weathered fishermen in traditional attire mingled with the vibrant youth, their colorful boats contrasting against the gray backdrop of the town. The streets, lined with modest shops and stalls, hummed with the cadence of everyday life. The aroma of freshly caught seafood wafted through the air, mingling with the scent of seaweed and salt.

Squid fishing was the primary economy in Sokcho. Life revolved around this gelatinous undersea denizen. A delicacy for fine tables, all the young men were squid fisherman and ventured out each day in rattling boats, anxious to race to the best fishing spots and uproot the luminous monsters, hefting them from the murky depths.

The town’s architecture showcased its history, with traditional Korean houses sitting side by side with concrete structures. The vibrant reds and yellows of the rooftops stood out against the stark gray of the sky, a testament to the resilience of the people who called Sokcho home.

One morning in this quaint little town, Soo-min was watching television. It was a typical Korean soap opera, but Soo-Min could not follow the plot. She could not make sense of the dialogue or the storyline. All she could think about was Ji-Hoon. They had experienced quite the emotional scene on the beach the night before.
