The Stage is Set
“No,” said Olympe. Sitting in the front row. Her assistant leaned towards her.
“I would beg you to reconsider, Madame. The recent conflicts have made actors scarce. Let him finish the scene, at least.”
Olympe nodded slightly, acknowledging the reality of their situation even as her thoughts churned with skepticism. Despite the young man’s efforts, she found herself questioning whether he possessed the depth of emotion required to convincingly portray a lovesick servant.
On the stage, the young man, dressed in the humble attire of a servant, knelt before the imaginary figure of his wealthy employer, a wealthy widow. In the scene, the servant had served the woman faithfully, loving her from afar, and finally brings himself to reveal his heart. The young man poured out his heart in a voice thick with emotion.
“Madame, forgive my boldness,” he began, his eyes brimming with sincerity, “but I cannot deny the feelings that have blossomed within my heart. Your grace, your kindness, they have stirred in me a love beyond words.”
